Trade mission South-West Netherlands to China yields rewards

The delegation has paid visits to the cities of Shanghai, Yangzhou and Nanjing, its special theme being the cooperation between South-West Netherlands and the city of Yanghzou, It has led to agreements of mutual support in the fields of economy, education and water management.

Important parts of this year’s programme were the official signing of the agreement between the two regions. It stipulates giving each other further support and signing an agreement of cooperation between the Chamber of Commerce South-West Netherlands and the CCPIT (The Yanghzou Chamber of Commerce). The latter agreement is exceptional since this is a private Chinese party.

During the visit mayor Mr Peter van der Velden was appointed honorary citizen of the city of Yanghzou. Further arrangements have also been made to add an employee to the staff of the China desk at the Chamber of Commerce South-West Netherlands, which was opened in Breda last year.

The Chinese discussion partners have invited South-West Netherlands to send representatives to the World Water Cities Congress, to be held in Yanghzou, and the World Logistics Congress, to be held in Nanjung, later this year.

The delegation has also used the visit to make further arrangements for 2010, a year featuring the World Expo in Shanghai. Special attention will be paid to the way South-West Netherlands could mean something when crowning several initiatives that are currently being prepared by the Netherlands. It has also been agreed that the Chinese New Year celebration of 2010 will take place in Breda on 10th February.

The representatives of the province of Zeeland have invited their Yanghzou colleagues to pay a return visit to the South-West Netherlands in 2010. This visit will highlight the province of Zeeland.

The Chamber of Commerce will start an exchange programme with its Chinese partner and together with the China Business Association (CBA) will draw up a programme of activities for companies in South-West Netherlands.
